Today…we begin to look at the MOST EPIC EVENT to come to planet earth… the Second Coming of Jesus Christ!
Here, In the final chapters of Revelation John the Apostle…has a vision of  the return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Because it is such a monumental event…there is a ton of Scripture that speaks about this event.
We're going to look at it in 2 segments…and see how it's going to come down.
We have looked at the 7 years Tribulation period…we know that it was not pretty
God bringing His judgment down on sinful mankind.
This too…will be a very bloody scene, a very horrific scene…but God will ultimately triumph over evil
But it gets better…and the better part happens when Jesus comes back.
On that day everything that is wrong with this world…and I mean everything…Everything will get sorted out…justice will finally be served!
Jesus will take over the earth that He Himself created.
Friends…Jesus is coming back…this is the MOST WONDERFUL NEWS EVER!
We are to LOOK FOR…and to LONG FOR the return of Jesus Christ.
Now we're going to look, beginning at Revelation 19:10-21.
Read Revelation 19:10-21
7 FEATURES of the Return of Jesus…Only 3 of them today!
Clarify…this is NOT THE RAPTURE…this is the Second Coming of Jesus Christ to earth…
At the RAPTURE…Jesus Christ comes FOR His Church!!! (John 14:3; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)
At His SECOND COMING…Jesus Christ comes WITH His Church
Where every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth and…every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:10-11
The Second Coming of Jesus is ANTICIPATED in Prophecy…Revelation 19:10
v.10 “…the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” This is then followed by John’s vision
NLT “…for the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus.”
Jesus Christ is at CENTRE OF PROPHECY…The entire OT points us to Jesus...to His redemption & rule
Hints of His coming woven all the way through the Bible…
…no subject apart from the subject of faith…no subject is more discussed in the Scripture.”
1,845x in the Bible
1,527x in the OT
318x in the NT
1 in every 30 verses of the Bible speak about/refer to the /Second Coming end of days
Jesus personally refers to His return…21x
times the Bible tells us to 50+be ready for His return
****Important: The Second Coming of Jesus is the CULMINATION of all redemptive history!****
All of God’s people…from all generations…have all looked forward to and longed for this event.
For 3500 years Jewish people have …(He came but they did not receive Him)longed for their Messiah
That's because the prophets all spoke about His coming…so the apostles wrote about it.
And now here…we are itself in .reading about the event Revelation 19
This is the time when…the . serpent's head will finally and fully be crushed Genesis 3:15
This is the time when…the. sceptre & rule, will once again be reinstated to Judah Genesis 49:10
This is the time when…God’s promise to King David will come to pass to have someone from his family line that would rule & reign forever 2 Samuel 7:1-17
This is the time referred to…Isaiah"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given…and the government shall be upon His shoulder…of the increase of His government and of peace there will be no end.” Isaiah 9:6-7
This is the time Nebuchadnezzar saw in a vision a large statue representing a line of world governing empires…then a stone comes careening out of heaven and hits the statue and smashes it to smithereens. But it formed a mountain that covered the entire earth.
interpreted the vision Daniel 2:44“And in the days following those kings the God of Heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed…It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end…and this kingdom shall stand forever."
You see…ALL the prophets foresaw this coming One!
God will dethrone that final Antichrist leader and He will set up His own Kingdom.
The prophets all knew that human history would reach this culmination.
Jesus: "Our Father in heaven Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven
Beginning in Revelation 19 and the following chapters, that prayer is finally answered
This is what Jesus explained to His disciples on the Mount of Olives about the end of days: ".” Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened. The moon will not give its light. The stars will fall from heaven. And the power of the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven. And they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and with great glory Matthew 24:29-30
HIS COMING IS ANTICIPATED BY PROPHECY.
****Important: The Second Coming of Jesus is the CULMINATION of all redemptive history!****
2. The Second Coming of Jesus Will Display…a Very DIFFERENT JesusRevelation 19:11-13
Look at some of the descriptions of Jesus in our text…a very different Jesus than in the gospels.
Jesus rides on a White Horse…
In the Gospels…Jesus rides humbled and mounted on a donkey, a colt the foal of a donkey. (Zechariah 9:9 Jesus’ time on earth is called the Humiliation of Jesus)
emperors & generals would ride a horse in time of war & conquest. This white horse But now He is on a white horse. Remember this is a culture where proclaims Jesus’ victory over His enemies.
John sees Jesus, ultimate conqueror coming in absolute triumph.
Your King is coming in triumph!
In the Gospels…Jesus looks on people with compassionate eyes…
He sees all things. Nothing escapes His noticeBut Here…v.12 "His eyes were like a flame of fire."
A penetrating gaze as He comes back as the judge.
Your King is coming…and He sees all things!
In the Gospels…Jesus wears a crown of thorns placed on Him by the Romans.
But here, "On His head were many crowns.” diademata = means a crown of rulership, crowns of ownership, crown of sovereignty, crowns of authority = the magnitude of His absolute sovereignty
Your King is coming…and He rules over all things!!
In the Gospels…Jesus meekly stands before Pilate, saying "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would rise up and fight."  But here, Jesus does not come alone…He is comes to the world with the armies of heaven
Who are they?
The church…also in fine lines v.7-8.
Tribulation saints…wearing white robes in 7:9…and the
OT saints and
All the holy angels who will be with Jesus. (Matthew 25:31)
Why are they there? To make Him look good. He redeemed us & made us righteous.
Your King is coming…with the Armies of Heaven!!
e. In the Gospels…we picture Him as His blood stains the garments He is wearing.
But in , we are told “.”Revelation 19:13…He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood
There is a lot of discussion… So this is a very different Jesus. Is it His blood?Or His enemies?
Your King is Coming…not as a Lamb…but as a Lion!
This is not the Lamb. This is . This is the Warrior King.the Lion of the tribe of Judah
This is the Jesus that Paul described in 2 Thessalonians 1:7-8 "The Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.”
His coming will display A VERY DIFFERENT JESUS!
3. The Second Coming of Jesus will REVEAL Four Names of Jesus!
In the Bible, there are 700+ names…70 different titles for Jesus Christ.Names are descriptors
We need that many words to just begin to describe Him.Why is this significant?
Why He has so many names…He is indescribable, uncontainable, He is beyond our comprehension.
He is so incomparable, indescribable, it takes 700+ names to even BEGIN two describe Him.
In our text you can’t miss the names that are given.
a. He is called Faithful and True…Revelation 19:11
Why is Jesus called Faithful & True ?
It is a contrast to the Antichrist, who has been unfaithful & false.
This is the true Christ…not the Antichrist. He is the real deal.
He is the One who will keep His promises… He is Faithful what He has said He will do.
There is absolutely not a single instance in Scripture where God has been unfaithful to His Word, His people, His character
Jesus is faithful…and He is true.
b. He is Called a name that nobody knows…except Him…Revelation 19:12
Seems rather odd. ""He had a name written that no one knew except himself.
Why would John bother to mention that Jesus had ?a secret name
There are a variety of thoughts on this…I am not going to speculate…
We don’t know…we just don’t know. We don’t need to know.
Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever. that we may do all the words of this law.”
Speculate? May express …He is incomprehensible.the mystery of God
To have a name that no one knew except He Himself means no one has the right to name Him.
No one has the right to usurp any authority at all over Him. He is the sovereign one.
He is the one who will ultimately and eternally rule and reign.
c. He’s called “the Word of God”…Revelation 19:13
That's a title unique to the writings of John the Apostle..”
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God…the Word became flesh and dwells among us
The Word = refers to God’s revelation…Jesus is the Word of God.
d. He is called “King of kings and Lord of lords” Revelation 19:16
In the OT was a title that referred to a supreme earthy king…he had amassed victories over other kings.“king of kings”
The title refers to God Himself as the supreme divine Lord“Lord of lords”
A name that describes His absolute sovereign triumph over His enemies and His absolute rule in His soon to be established Kingdom
The name that He has, .King of Kings and Lord of Lords
SO WHAT?
We are going to stop here…
Fellowship…let me assure you…this is coming…THE KING IS COMING!
This is not make believe…this is not some fable conjured up over centuries of Christendom.
This is a reality that you will see and that you will experience one day.
And I hope it inspires your faith…because that is the purpose of prophecy.
The purpose of prophecy is not to cause fear
the purpose of prophecy is to create faith.
When Paul the Apostle was in prison. He knew he was about to die. He wrote his final words in
"2 Timothy 4:6-8 I've run the race. I've fought the good fight. And now there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me in that day, but not only to me, but to all those who have loved His appearing
Interesting that the last description Paul gives of Christians is .those who love His appearing
Do you love His appearing? Do you long for His appearing?
He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords…He is the Lord of lords…He is the Word of God…
He is Faithful and True…The King is Coming!
Question is, is He your King? Is He your Lord?
Does He have rule over your life?
Does He call the shots? Or do you? Let’s pray.
